Drive To Revive Memorial Park

Mark Walker and Greg Padovani, members of The Drive to Revive Memorial Park, gave us an update on Phase I of Arlington Heights’ park renovation project scheduled to be finished by November 11, 2008. They currently have all the money needed to complete Phase I.

Memorial Park, which is maintained by the Arlington Heights Park District, is located between W. Fremont, W. Park and N. Chestnut streets. Last renovated in 1969, its first monument was erected by Civil War Veterans. Its second monument was installed by the Village to honor WW I veterans. No additional monuments have been installed.

Phase I renovation will primarily be the installation of a circular central plaza that will later be updated in Phase II with a commissioned work of art. The plaza’s decorative brickwork will include bricks engraved with the names of veterans, current military personal, non-military families, businesses, Civic Groups and others. Bricks can be bought at any time and installed. The other part of the Phase I renovation will be a relocation of the existing monuments to a new smaller plaza. “Donations to Memorial Park Fund are tax deductible,” said Greg Padovani.
