AH Historical Society: A Jewel of The Community

At the October 23rd meeting we heard from two staff members of the Arlington Heights Historical Society – Kristina Christie, Administrator and Melody Smith, Society Coordinator.

The A.H. Historical Society was incorporated in May 1957. In 1967 they purchased the F.W. Muller House for the Village and later opened in 1968 as a museum to the public. In 1981 the Village acquired the Banta house and became part of the museum operations. In 1986 former Rotary Club President Chris Meier became the first Director of the A.H. Historical Museum.

Today, the A.H. Historical Museum consists of the Muller House, the Banta House, the Coach House, the Soda Pop Factory building, the Heritage Gallery and Gift Shop, and a replica 1830’s Log House all located next to each other at the southwest corner of Euclid Ave. and N. Vail Ave. The museum is a cooperative effort of the Village of Arlington Heights, Arlington Heights Park District, Arlington Heights Memorial Library and the Arlington Heights Historical Society.

As many as 17,000 persons visit the Museum campus each year and participate in its many and varied activities which include picnics, historical re-enactments, special historical exhibits, artists displays, wine-tasting parties, Holiday Teas, and private parties.

There are many ways to get involved with the Society. You can become a member or a business sponsor. You can be a volunteer. You can rent some of the facilities. And, between now and November 10th you can buy Fannie Mae candies with a 5% discount, no shipping charge to your home or business, and no sales tax with the profit going to the Society as a contribution.
