Arlene Mulder—The State of Arlington Heights

Today, Arlington Heights Mayor and Paul Harris Fellow Arlene Mulder gave us an update of the village on it’s eve of the new fiscal year (begins May 1).
The big item is the new village hall – the John G. Woods Municipal Campus which will be dedicated on May 8th. Open House will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday May 10th.
The Mayor promised that it will be easy to navigate around the secured building because “the signage is better than that in the parking garages.” However, only municipal employees will be able to enter the offices by using their I.D. badge/keys.
A handout was given that shows the sources of revenue to the village. The Mayor pointed out that the largest source was from sales tax collections. However, that particular source has been declining for the past 5 years. It was not made clear if this decline was before or after rebates (Economic Incentives) were paid to the large retailers.
For those who haven’t heard, Arlington Heights is divided into three areas. Uptown is north of Thomas St., Downtown extends from that street south to Central Rd. where Southtown begins.
The village has entered into discussions with Elk Grove Village to build a station for the proposed Star Line which will be located somewhere south of Algonquin Road. (The Star Line will provide mass transit to Chicago.)
