Club Assembly

On July 16, 2009, the Club's Committee Chairpersons presented their reports of the activities and plans for their respective committee. Their reports are summarized below.


Wendy Davis, International Committee

  • The goal of the upcoming gold sale is $500, which will be used toward the purchase of a shelter box. So far, Rotary has sent out approximately 3000 shelter boxes, which are used in the event of fire, flood, hurricane, tornado and other disasters.
  • The committee will be focusing on the use of microcredits between European and American Rotary clubs, for the benefit of clubs that are struggling.
  • Look for the committee to organize a wine and cheese party on Wendy’s patio to encourage committee membership and exchange ideas.
  • The committee has made a grant for a solar generator to be used in Guatemala. Our club’s contribution of $400 was matched by Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation wich netted a total donation of $2,500 towards the solar generator.
  • In November, there will is an 8-day trip planned to Africa. In January, there is another trip planned to Guatemala. For additional details on either trip, please see Wendy.


    Linda Borton, Vocational Service Committee

  • Scholarship/Literary – The committee will continue with its past efforts in the areas of (1) George Harris Book Scholarships to Arlington Heights area students, (2) screening candidates for vocational scholarships, and (3) the “Rotary Reads” program, in which Rotary members read once per month to preschool children of parents involved in ESL (English as a second language) programs.
  • Vocational – The committee is investigating how it can support adults that need vocational retraining. Let Linda know of your ideas!


    John Ridler, Community Service

  • The committee needs volunteers, so Sign Up!
  • The committee donated $5,000 over two years to Arlington Heights Memorial Park, and a bench in the park will have our Rotary club name inscribed on it.
  • The Thanksgiving Meal program and Holiday Gift program will each continue to be a major focus of the committee.
  • The committee is also involved in the Kids on Track Program, which supports the children of families that live at Arlington Park.
  • Salute, Inc., which supports disabled veterans, provided great support for our Santa Sleigh Run last year, and in recognition, the club will donate $1,500 to Salute, Inc.


    Kris Stabler, President Elect

  • The 2009 Rotary Raffle included new efforts to raise revenue, including Bingo and a Margarita bar. Those efforts were successful and will be continued for 2010.


    Bill Kmiecik, Treasurer

  • The dues statements will now arrive quicker and by email for all those who have email.
  • The 2009 Santa Sleigh Run involved 600 runners and generated $9,000 in sponsor donations. The 2010 goal is 1200 runners and $15,000 in sponsor donations.
  • After a somewhat spirited discussion, it was determined that the 2010 budget will be distributed to the members very shortly.
