Club Announcements
Past President (a.k.a. “Has Been” – endearing and happy term used by former presidents) Ron Crawford reported on our club’s representation at last night’s installation of District Governor Bill Ferreira. In addition to Ron, Bob and Marcie Paddock, and Kris Stabler attended, hearing Governor Bill and International President-Elect, Ray Klinginsmith, talk about how we’ll move ahead in the coming year – growing Rotary, talking about Rotary and taking pride in what Rotary does, and working to earn that respect by helping others. As this year’s International theme says, “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands!!!” See the District Web Site for the Governor’s newsletter and learn more about Bill’s plans.
Kris Stabler asked the outcome of designating two weeks’ fines for the Finerrty family: $800 were donated !
Bob Morman passed a Winner’s Circle photo of Arlington’s Rotary Day at the Races. He thanked Arlington Park for a great day, and for the Track’s on-going support.
Fine Master
Esteemed Fine Master, Judge Jim Ryan, held court over happy fines and an educational session. As an added bonus, in response to some harassment about his driving, he gave us the inside scoop about his recent ticket – “It was my first ever!” Said the officer, “...Your first of many!” Wedding-related Happy Fines were from Jim Hassenplug on the marriage of his daughter, Sue Duchek about her son’s, Mark Tauber about his son’s, and Bob Paddock...his daughters aren’t married yet, so he’s enjoying the money while he has it !. L Congratulations Jim/Sue/Mark ! Linda Borton thanked Sue Duchek in person for the Book Scholar and Fine Master Terry Ennis for his educational session last week. The Girls’ Golf Trio expressed their happiness – but didn’t fess up to their scores: perhaps it’s “walking the talk” that counts !
Jim went on in the theme of education to help us be more geographically erudite with questions about locations of countries. San Marino, Mayotte, Benin, and Burkina Faso. If you can find these locations, see if you can get Jim to pay for your desert next week by asking him which one is “The Most Serene”.
