Club Announcements
Rotary Fun and Fun doing Rotary Service – our new Shelter Box representative from the Rotary Club of Long Grove introduced himself, telling of the use and passing photos of the areas – two boxes went to the Sudan in Africa in January. In June, one was sent to Sri Lanka, an island off the southeastern coast of India.

He also told of his club’s upcoming fund raiser similar to ours – a raffle for two business class tickets to England. $25 each with only 500 tickets sold. they are also having a Heritage Run/Walk Sept. 12. You can both gain and lose running – you’ll lose weight, then put it back on (there’s a free pancake breakfast as part of the $25 entry fee ! ). Details are at www.RotaryRace.org.

Arlington Breakfast, our sister club (daughter, actually, since we sponsored her charter) is having a special event 8/18 to acknowledge a special community member, Gary Grana, a former member of our club. Gary is Matt’s father. Join them that morning, 7:15 a.m. at the Double Tree, right around the corner.

We also were presented with a newly redesigned Sunrise flag and reminded of their “Duffer” Arlington Classic Golf Outing. Join them to see if this year’s duffer, Tom Kivlahan, can place a ball as well as a word (can you think of his synonym for Village Hall?). Several of our club members have been honored as Duffers over the years (Mike Silverman, Kris Stabler, Bob Paddock, and Sue Duchek). So if you’d enjoy golf 9/17, benefiting Special Olympics, and the included lunch and dinner at Arlington Lakes, join us at this worthy fund raising effort. More info is at www.nwsra.org.

Fine Masters Corner
Our Fine Master was in Fine Form...belaying his concern that he may have run out of beneficial questions. Whether for this reason or their own, many were happy – Bob Heller, Ron Crawford, Jim Hassenplug...and, proudly, Jim himself for his granddaughter a college sophomore in Park City Utah, with great attributes including a perfect grade point. Thanks to you all for sharing your happiness and your $$.

If you missed the meeting or want to quiz others, a few of the questions were – What is the only dog with a black tongue? How long between meals for a snake? Why are mice and giraffes friends (or at least similar)? How much warning do you get from a skunk? (answers: A chow; up to a year between chow times; the same number of vertebrae, and a mile away.) Please leave a dollar on the table !
