July 9, 2009 Happenings & Announcements
Club AnnouncementsPresident Bill Hoff presided, having returning from Rotary International’s annual convention and a vacation tour to Greece, presenting us with two club flags from Scotland – Oldmeldrum and Ellon 1221. Welcome back, Bill...and welcome to your year of service !
Speaking of service, Kris Stabler passed around sign-up sheets work for this year’s service committees. Rotary is about service through fellowship in these meaningful and enjoyable activities. The list is taking the place of the large “sign up boards” the club used to use. Please look over the listing here in the newsletter. Consider in what area you’d like. If you have questions or wonder what the activities entail, feel free to call the Chairs and ask. Sign up for one or more at the next club meetings, or call Kris. Family members are a welcomed too. After the end of the month individuals who haven’t signed up will be contacted about the remaining slots, so choose your favorites soon.
And demonstrating “service”, Bill Kmiecik described the club’s 4th of July parade entry, He thanked club members, family and friends who pitched in to walk the parade. By passing out candy canes and fliers, they raised awareness of Rotary and built interest for our Santa Run. We join Bill in thanking Kris Stabler, Bill Mahoney, Ron Crawford, Bill Kmiecik and daughter Emily, Tim Corrigan, Pete and spouse Suzy Cavoto, Dominic Gualtieri, and Ron Walter. A special thanks goes to George Bigham for being a great Santa (and to spouse Dee for enabling him to share his Ho Ho Hos). Additionally, President Hoff expressed the club’s appreciation for Arlington Park’s sponsorship – early and significant support. This all lays the groundwork for another great fund-raiser this year.
Fine Masters Corner
Fine Master, Judge Jim, raised funds by stumping us on a tour of the art world – we really should have known was who Ann Marie Robertson was and what Samuel Morris is known for. Do you? The answers are, backwards, “nna eiram nostrebor” and “leumas esrom”). Happy Fines included President Bill for being back from a great RI convention and vacation; Kris Stabler for the parade participants as well as the gents at the table (they should pay your fines, Kris!); Tim Corrigan proudly for his daughter Christina’s making The Dean’s List at Bradley University; Kerry Pearson for son Ryan being over the swine flu (Kerry and Lynn went unscathed); and Bob Heller celebrating his first great grandchild.
