June 11, 2009 Happenings & Announcements

Sue Duchek, on behalf of Linda Borton, introduced one of our Book Scholars, __(?get from attendance cards?)_____________. Accompanied proudly by his mother Sharon, we were impressed to see how eloquently he expressed his appreciation for the $500 scholarship award. A student at Hersey High School, he plans to go to De Paul and, perhaps, on to law school. Our thanks to the scholarship committee (and the mom ! ) for giving us such promising young people!

Good work at our Board – using time as a measure, the last board meeting was productive. Kris Stabler reported that at the recent 4-hour board meeting, members discussed and did planning for the transition to the new year, with special focus on the budget. We’ve switched to using Quicken from Quick Books, and that entail much discussion on the chart of accounts and categorizing of revenue and expense items. Kris expressed the Board’s thanks to treasurer Stacy Mallek for her work.

The board also discussed the date of the holiday party, suggesting possible dates to avoid possible conflict with Hanukkah. Discussion at today’s meeting indicated there might not be a conflict after all, so we’ll probably hold it on our usual date. If you have thoughts/comments, please bring them to Kris Stabler, (847) 385-7740..

Club shirts are available. If you are interested, contact Lynn Jensen with your size. Now that we’ve had the art designed and paid for, shirts are available most any time with a little notice. You will be billed for the shirt on your quarterly club invoice.
