For $25 per person ($40 per couple) there will be appetizers and cash bar, plus various political dignitaries attending a program of Patriotic Songs by the Arlingtones, the documentary video of Memorial Park, and the American Legion Post 208 Color Guard. Sue Duchek and Jim Bertucci reminded us to please fill out the Classification Survey, saying they need your response in order to complete their project. Contact Sue or Jim if you don’t have one. Sue also announced that Sunday, December 6, will be our Holiday Shopping event for needy families in Arlington Heights. It has always been an enjoyable and meaningful event for Rotarians, 8:30 a.m. at Target, then going to a local restaurant to do wrapping. Put the date on your calendar, sign up at the next meeting or contact Sue directly. Our thanks go to both Sue and Jim for their efforts on behalf of the club.
Ron Crawford asked for bike donations and Rotarian volunteers for our first Holiday Bike Donation program, run in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, the Village, Township, District 25 and Village Bank. Rotarians are needed to help during the event, Saturday, November 14, 12 noon ‘til 3 p.m. serving hot dogs and beverages, and helping take in donated bikes. The event is at the Chamber Office/Village Bank, 311 South Arlington Heights Road. Contact Ron or Jon Ridler to sign up or for more information. Bikes will be distributed to those in need in Arlington Heights.
Fine Masters Corner
Our Fine Finemaster, Jim Hassenplug, tricked and treated us with Halloween trivia. Do you know what prompted the start of Halloween Trick or Treating? Choices: A candy company, a retailer, a school board, or young children worn out from tipping over outhouses? The answers...a school board trying to deal with “hooligan-like” behavior. None of us ever did any tipping like that, right?.
Ron Crawford was happily looking forward to basking on sand and sea in Mexico. We’ll ask/(fine) him about “How Happy” when he returns! Mark Tauber celebrated our new member. Linda Borton noted no one asked about age today. And new member, Bob Krzysik, was given a chance to be happy about joining the club.
