Club Announcements
Dave Schultz introduced Urban Harvest’s Mary Ellen Hogan. She presented the Club with a $200 donation check for her partnership with the Club in the wine tasting at Dave’s house. Additional good news is that she will be honoring the Rotary discount through the end of the year, a 10% discount that will also apply to holiday gift baskets! You can visit their web site at www.myurbanharvest.com.

Applause broke out when Dave said he and his wife so enjoyed putting on the event that they’ll try to do another one. We thought we heard someone say, “I’ll drink to that!” Our thanks go to Mary Ellen and the Schultzes for this fun fund raising event.

President Bill Hoff had some sad and some good news. We’re sorry to hear that Bill Billimoria has submitted his resignation. BillB has been a long-time member of the Club and an especially effective supporter of our fund raising efforts. Thanks, Bill. We’ll miss both you and your wife, Helen.

President Bill reminded us of two changes to the board of directors, Tim Corrigan becoming Vice President, and Mark Tauber taking over the chairmanship of Club Administration. Our congratulations and thanks go to them both. Mark took the reins by asking each of us to identify the areas of Club service in which we’d enjoy participating. A sign up list was passed around; it will appear again. Contact Mark if you have interest in a special assignment or area. Likewise if you have comments or questions: marktauber@gcgfinancial.com or 847-457-3073.

Other announcements and hand outs included the Memorial Library’s “Read & Feed”, now through December 1. Food pantry items to help our neighbors can be brought to the checkout desk, bookmobile or AH Senior Center. Pet food items will go to The Buddy Foundation.

Also, be sure to tell your friends to dust off their Santa Suits, or get new ones, for our Santa Run fund raiser 12/5. Bill Kmiecik and the team will be looking for volunteers to help make this year’s event even better than the last. It’s fun and an important event for the Club’s charitable efforts.

Fine Masters Corner
Fine Master Ron Walter lightened our wallets with some significant Happy Fines. First, what a pleasure for us to greet Kris Stabler’s guest – her mom, Mrs. Barbara Koss! Kris also expressed thanks for the Club’s support of the softball game at The Track.

Mike Field said thanks to the Club and Arlington Park, noting there’s still room for folks to participate in the H.S. Dist. 214 Community Ed Foundation bowling event, Saturday, 10/10, 7 p.m. at Arlington Lanes (near Kennicott and Dundee). Walk-ins are welcome. You may not be able to smell the cigarette smoke any more, but there’s still some of the old time fragrance we all remember -- rental shoes and beer! It should be a great night for a good cause. Bob Paddock was reminded he should be happy to be back after so too many absences recently...and he was.

Quiz yourself on Ron’s Halloween Questions – which is the most popular Halloween candy, M&Ms or candy corn? How many pounds of candy does an American eat each year? How many does a Rotarian eat? Candy corn is the most popular, Americans each much on about 24 pounds of candy, and...no Rotarian would fess up!
