Survey Results Guide Planning For 2008-09

On March 28, 2008, Rotarian Jim Miller presented the results of the member survey that was taken during the February 28th and March 13th lunch meetings. President-Elect Ron Crawford also presented the results of the March 19th planning meeting.

The member survey addressed the topics of Programs, Service Opportunities, Newsletter, Fine Masters, and the Club Overall. The survey results indicated that the average age of our members is 57 years, and the average membership tenure is 7.4 years. Eighty-three percent of the members are male, and 17% are female.

The results also showed that the members generally want fewer programs devoted to “not-for-profits,” and more devoted to community, state and local government, and rotary topics. Eighty-seven percent of the members with at least 6 years of membership were satisfied with the type of service opportunities, whereas only 50% with fewer than 6 years of membership were satisfied.

A remarkable 78% of members report that they read the Big Wheel newsletter every week. Ninety five percent of members report that they are satisfied with the newsletter, and a remarkable 85% report that they are very satisfied. Regarding the weekly meetings, 93% are satisfied with the fine masters and their “fun and frolic,” and 95% are satisfied with the club’s lunch programs. In general, ninety three percent (93%) of members are satisfied with the club.

At the March 19th planning meeting, the attendees were asked what one issue or activity the club should focus on for the next year. The top vote getters, in order, were:

1. Organize a unique community event.
2. More publicity and visibility for the club.
3. Develop a club calendar.
4. Focus on fun activities.

The attendees then brainstormed and launched an effort for our club to sponsor a 5K Santa Fun Run/Walk on December 7, 2008. (Yes, this means that you run or walk the race in a Santa suit). Thanks to Lynn Jensen (set up and organization), Mark Tauber (facilitator) and Kris Stabler (arranged facility) for their efforts.
