Valentine’s Day & “Curly’s Girls”

In keeping with year’s of holiday programs celebrated with entertainment by various editions of “Curly’s Girls”, our Valentine’s Day celebration had two special celebrations: The first, a well-deserved recognition of “Curly” Nebel’s efforts on behalf of the club; the second, a performance by the Hersey High School song and dance troop “Ladies First,” which delighted Rotarians and our special guests. Our thanks go to Kris Stabler and others who made this year’s event a success. Guests donated their Valentine roses as a special Thank You to the young ladies of the troop.

Before the entertainment, Mark Tauber and Bob Morman spoke of Curly’s many years of party entertainment programming “that can’t be replaced.” Curly appreciatively received a unique “Curly’s Girls” sweatshirt. We know he’s true to June, but this will keep him warm when “the girls” aren’t nearby!

In this year’s entertainment were thirty-four female high school students who make up Ladies First. They performed selections from the group’s 2008 competition show entitled Roam Around the World, a collection reflecting several regional music styles and topics. Ladies First is one of eight performing choral ensembles at Hersey representing the outstanding fine arts department. Their competition season will include performances at Milton, Center Grove, Mundelein and Wheaton-Warrenville South schools, and hosting the 15th annual Chicagoland Showcase at Hersey on February 29 and March 1.
